Karla Martin is a partner in the Heidrick & Struggles’ San Francisco office and is a member of the Heidrick Consulting team. Karla has extensive experience helping companies formulate strategies and operational plans to drive profitable growth and shareholder value creation, through her previous leadership roles across large organizations, entrepreneurial ventures, venture capital, and early and mid-stage startups.
Prior to Heidrick & Struggles, Karla led initiatives to grow digital, omnichannel and technology businesses. Her proficiency in innovation, marketing and customer analytics, strategy development and execution, business development, financial controls/P&L management, and merger integration for businesses ranges from work with start-ups, venture capital and private equity, and boards to Fortune 500 companies.
She joins Heidrick most recently from InspiredLuxe.com, where she was chief operating officer. Karla has held executive leadership roles across large organizations, including director of strategy and strategic planning at Google. Karla was also a partner at Booz, Allen & Hamilton, where she co-founded the firm’s technology practice and its incubator, started and led the global retail and luxury goods practice, and was head of the West Coast office.
A recognized retail and CGP expert, she has expertise in business model transformation, digital/omnichannel, new market/growth strategy, store format, and restructuring. Additionally, Karla is a passionate advocate for increasing diversity and inclusion in the C-Suite and boardroom.
Karla is also a published expert on retail strategy and operations, innovation, organizational effectiveness and complexity reduction. She co-authored “The Secrets to Successful Strategy Execution,” which has been translated into over 15 languages and was named one of the “10 Must Reads on Strategy” by Harvard Business Review.
Karla received her undergraduate AB in sociology and economics, graduating cum laude, and completed her JD with honors at Harvard Law School.
