John Thompson serves as vice chairman of Heidrick & Struggles' global CEO & Board of Directors Practice based in both New York and Menlo Park. He is recognized as one of the most respected CEO and board consultants in the nation having completed more than 200 CEO searches and more than 300 board searches in the last 30 years. He works with both public and private boards to recruit new directors as well as serving as an advisor on major board restructuring projects.
John was the first recipient of Heidrick & Struggles’ global Lifetime Achievement Award, and currently serves on the advisory board of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research.
Before joining Heidrick & Struggles as a partner nearly 24 years ago, John was a partner with a regional executive search firm. Before that, he was the corporate director of organization development for Atari and was previously employed with The Williams Companies as corporate director of organization development.
