Steve Mullinjer is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ CEO & Board Practice, based in Hong Kong.
Steve served as the regional leader of Asia Pacific and the Middle East from 2011 to 2017. In his role as the regional head, Steve led the firm’s market entry strategy into China, establishing the firm’s Beijing and Shanghai offices and spearheading two strategic acquisitions in Dubai and Australia. Under his stewardship, Heidrick & Struggles’ APAC region became the market leader in executive search.
Steve has lived and worked in China for 20 years and his experience spans Asia Pacific. He interacts frequently with the CEOs of the region’s most successful businesses and has deep insight into the different business dynamics in markets as diverse as China, Australia, India and Korea.
A veteran consultant, Steve is a regular commentator on regional media such as ABC and CNBC. In 2011, he was voted by peer firms as the best recruiter in China in a survey conducted by the Wall Street Journal. In 2001, Steve was named “Headhunter of the Year” by Hong Kong’s Financial Intelligence Agency. Earlier in his career, Steve held general management, sales and marketing and product management positions in Australia and China with companies like Pacific Dunlop and IBM.
Steve's practical experience is balanced by academic research. He holds two bachelors and two masters’ degrees and has done research on joint venture management in China at the Australian National University. He speaks and reads Mandarin Chinese.
