Kay Yong Tan is a senior advisor in Heidrick & Struggles’ Singapore office and a member of the Heidrick Consulting team. He focuses on accelerating organizations, driving strategy formulation, and operational excellence.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Kay Yong served in various senior executive roles during his 30 year career with GSK. He was a member of the global executive team, MD and chairman of Glaxo’s Group of companies in Singapore. He was instrumental in building the most profitable business in Singapore and an operationally effective global business. He has gained significant experience working with R&D, manufacturing, supply, and commercial. He has also been engaged in M&A due diligence and integration, notably in Europe, India, and China. In these roles, Kay Yong traveled extensively and lived and worked in Singapore and the United Kingdom. He enjoys working across cultures and brings a good blend of east-west insights and sensitivities to discussions
Within the Singapore community, Kay Yong served voluntarily on numerous government and trade bodies with a focus on taxation, technology and economic empowerment. He was honored to receive the Public Service Star, Medal of Commendation (NTUC) and the HEALTH leader Award (Ministry of Health). He was also the founding president for ISPE (International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers), Singapore Chapter and recognized as ISPE Member of the Year 2000.
Concurrently, Kay Yong serves as chairman, Lifelong Learning Council, Ministry of Education.
Kay Yong earned an IDP-C in corporate governance from INSEAD, an MBA in international business from National University of Singapore, and a BSc, with first class honours, in mechanical engineering from the University of Manchester.
