Jonathan Zhu is Partner-in-Charge of Heidrick & Struggles’ Beijing office and a Partner of the firm’s Life Science & Government Affairs Practices in China, splitting his time between Shanghai and Beijing. Jonathan has accumulated over 20 years of professional experience in both private and public sectors. He was one of the first Chinese-American lobbyists working for an established Washington DC based Government Affairs consulting firm. During his tenure with the organization, Jonathan advised multinational companies in Sino-America transactions at both the strategic and tactical levels.
Jonathan also held senior positions such as China Country General Manager and Corporate Marketing Director for both US and Japanese publicly listed multinational companies in the Industrial and Analytical/Medical Diagnostic Industries.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Jonathan was a Partner with another global executive search company, where he was leading the Life Sciences & Government Affairs practices in China. Early in his career, Jonathan worked for US Department of Defense (DOD) - reported to a Major General in the USAF where he gained the fundamental life values of devotion, discipline and teamwork. Jonathan served on Asia Advisory Board for Coloplast, a Danish based global medical device company. He has also served as trusted advisor to several leading pharmaceutical and medical devices companies in the region.
Jonathan was raised in China (Beijing) and educated in the US from high school. His academic background includes an Engineering (B.S) from University of Maryland, Business (MBA) from University of Baltimore and Law (LL.M) from China University of Political Science & Law. He has published papers on the topics of China Government Affairs, Organizational Development (OD) and Corporate Structures in journals such as Pharmaceutical China.
