Ellen Landers is a senior advisor in Heidrick & Struggles’ Atlanta office and a member of the Social Impact Practice. She works closely with boards and senior leadership teams at mission-oriented organizations to provide counsel on executive leadership, organizational strategy, and board effectiveness.
Ellen conducts a wide range of searches for universities and colleges, including chancellors, presidents, provosts, functional vice presidents, general counsels, and deans. She also works with foundations, government agencies, associations, and other nonprofits on executive level assignments and related advisory services.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles in 1996, Ellen was assistant general counsel for the State Bar of Georgia, handling a variety of legal and policy issues for the Bar. Earlier in her career, she practiced law with Smith, Gambrell & Russell.
Ellen is active in professional and community activities serving as an advisory board member and past board chair of the Georgia Justice Project, a member of the Women’s Network at CARE, and a board member at Hands On Atlanta. She is also a member of the Wake Forest College Board of Visitors and the advisory board for the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.
Ellen earned her JD from the University of Georgia School of Law where she served as president of the Student Bar Association, and a BA, with honors, from Wake Forest University. She has completed “Governing for Non-Profit Excellence” at the Harvard Business School.
