Jim Penny is a Partner at the Heidrick & Struggles’ New York and Chicago offices. He currently serves as the firm’s Private Equity Consumer Markets Leader, serving as the global liaison between the Private Equity and the Consumer Markets Practice in addition to being an integral member of the Financial Officers practice. Jim played a key role in building out the company’s expertise in consumer finance. He is actively involved in conducting global senior-level assignments in a variety of consumer industries, including retail, products, hospitality and services. In addition to working for Fortune 500 companies, Jim works with private equity firms to fill positions in their portfolio companies and understands the needs and challenges of companies owned by financial sponsors.
Previously, Jim spent more than four years at another international executive search firm where he worked in the consumer, retail and industrial sectors. Throughout his search career, he has conducted numerous search assignments for CEOs, CFOs, presidents and general managers, as well as managers of staff and line functions.
Before his career in executive search, Jim gained Wall Street experience working in equity research at Merrill Lynch. He previously worked for Amoco Oil Company and Pacific Cargoes.
Jim earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy with a bachelor's degree in marine transportation.
