Joining a SPAC board: What to expect and how to add value

Dee Dee Sklar, a board member of Kernel Group Holdings, discusses what it’s like to sit on the board of a SPAC and shares some advice for those considering joining one.

As part of our Leadership Perspectives video series, Heidrick & Struggles’ Elisabetta Bartoloni sat down to speak with Dee Dee Sklar, a board member and the audit committee chair of Kernel Group Holdings, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). In this video, Sklar explains the differences she’s found between sitting on the board of a SPAC after 40 years working in the financial services industry and shares what those looking to join a SPAC board should expect, as well as some of the lessons she’s learned from her time in private equity. Sklar and Bartoloni also discuss the importance of ESG and how Kernel Group Holdings is addressing ESG for both itself and its target companies. Finally, Sklar offers what she believes the near future will look like for SPAC boards.
