Overview
Sean McLean is the partner in charge of Heidrick & Struggles’ Calgary office and a member of the global Industrial and Financial Officers practices. With more than 15 years of executive search experience, Sean has completed more than 300 board and senior executive assignments across Canada and internationally.
Experience
Based just outside of Calgary, Alberta, Sean frequently serves clients in collaboration with colleagues in the Toronto office. He focuses on board, c-suite, and P&L business unit leadership roles in diversified industries in Canada, with expertise in resource development, industrial services, and consumer markets. He frequently works with investment management firms to recruit key executives for their portfolio companies.
Sean joined Heidrick & Struggles from an international executive search firm where he was a managing partner in the Calgary office and led the oil and gas practice. Before his career in executive search, Sean had a progressive leadership and executive career in the non-profit and professional services sectors.

Philanthropy and Service
Sean and his family are active within their community. He serves on the board of STEM Innovation Academy in Calgary. He is a former chair of TELUS Spark, a leading Canadian science centre, and is a former board member of Calgary Science School, Calgary Learning Centre, and Edge School. Sean volunteers with UNICEF Canada and participates annually in the United Way Leadership Giving program.
